Ai Ge Xie
Xie Ai Ge was born in 1977 in China's Hunan province. She graduated from the Shanghai Fine Arts College and is currently a member of the Shanghai Sculpture Society. Her pieces have been featured in numerous publications, including "Contemporary Moden Art" and "Outstanding Young Artist Publication."
Ai Ge's sculptures are charming reminders of the past communicated through a sleek, modern medium. These pieces attract immediate attention through their apparent simplicity and the aesthetic pleasure they evoke in the viewer. Ai Ge's works reference her Hunan province roots as well as the influence of the various trends in contemporary Chinese sculpture. Her "Tai Chi" series (in which she portrays figures in various poses from Tai Chi) are prime examples of Ai Ge's talent for capturing emotion and passion in a sculptural vessel. In the words of the artist:
"I enjoy capturing transient moments and trivial things in life and transporting them into my work. The characters that appear in my pieces are mostly portrayed in states of total relaxation and simplicity. They simply behave as themselves, with no artifice, makeup, or designated postures. They seem to live in their own world, enjoying their own lives without noticing the passage of time and the world changing around them. It is a moment with no time, dimension, space, or environment."
