Artist’s Proof in Georgetown, Washington D.C invites you to a Night of Fashion and Photo Collage with Maxwell N. Burnstein. Come meet with fellow fashion connoisseurs, engage with haute couture inspired photo collages and meet with Toronto based artist Maxwell N. Burnstein Thursday, March 23, 2017 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Burnstein will be giving insight into his creative process by teaching guests the various techniques he uses in his handmade multi-dimensional collages, giving you a private preview with the artist as he creates unique fashion inspired collage.
Burnstein’s handmade multidimensional collages have prompted international artist residencies and collaborations with leading fashion publications, including covers for Elle Magazines and Harper’s Bazaar. Burnstein’s expression through his various collages is a combination of fashion and art that is truly unique and engaging in a highly current way.
While most of today’s mixed media collages are created digitally, Burnstein creates his with an x-acto knife, a glue stick and paper. “I have an idea of how the images will fit or work together. I’ll pair the images up, normally two to three, print on hard stock and start taking apart the image till it can weave together. Each final piece is a series of layers that are woven and placed together. Normally i print the work, sit and create until I am done working.” This process can take at least five hours depending on the complexity of the collage.
